Some newly arrived teeny things....

I have sourced a lot of new stock for the shop lately, and I need to get it listed, but I have been sculpting this week..........here are the hands I've modelled.....

I'll be sanding and gessoing everything over the weekend.....then to play with paint. I love my job!

Sketching the features....

Until relatively recently I always sculpted in plastiline, and then cast my dolls from porcelain.

One of the interesting things about sculpting in paperclay is that you can draw on the head, to test out how the face will look when you start to paint it.....

Now she is ready to be sanded, and sealed in gesso, then I can start to put the real paint on!

Playing with Clay....

I've spent the last few days working in clay, which I love.

This is a new girl who I'm working on....

......and this is a small pair of paperclay hands in progress....

We had a beautiful sunny weekend, so I spent a little bit of time out in the garden, and I found some tiny friends living out there....

Today the weather is grey again, so I'm happy to stay inside and get busy with the clay again! So hopefully I'll have more to work to show soon....

There is a forecast for sun later in the week though - fingers crossed!!!

Mayday, mayday - has anyone seen the sun?

So this morning we went to Cressing Temple Barns for an antique fair.....

It's very grey and cold, but that's bank holiday weekends for you! I'm just grateful I don't have to dance around the Maypole!!!

Victoria - Paperclay and Cloth Doll

I have finished Victoria, a 10.5 inch paperclay over cloth doll. Her face and hands are hand sculpted in paperclay, and her body is a lightweight calico.

Her dress is rich silk dupion. She has cotton lawn drawers, chemise and petticoat, trimmed with antique cotton lace, and finished with hand embroidery.

Her black ankle boots, her hair and face have been hand painted in acrylics, and sealed with matt varnish.

She was made using a reduced version of Dixie Redmond's Izannah Walker doll pattern.

I've had a lot of fun making her!!!
